Plant Bach – 2 years 9 months & Plant Mawr – 3 to 4 years 

In August 2026, we reviewed our groups and chose to move away slightly from traditional age-based groupings. This gives our children more space, and more flexibility and support to ensure smoother transitions between groups.

Our preschool provision consists of two groups: Plant Bach and Plant Mawr.

Plant Bach is a transition group for children moving on from Baban Mawr, helping them develop the confidence, independence and skills they need before joining Plant Mawr. Plant Mawr is for our three- and four-year-olds as they prepare for school.

You will communicate with the team through an app called Famly. We encourage you to share updates about how your child has been at home, including any trips or special experiences, so that we can talk about them together in the group.

For children in Plant Bach we will continue to provide daily updates until we are confident that they are ready and able to share more about their day themselves. We will also share photos and notes about your child’s progress and keep you updated on their routine including what they have eaten, how long they have slept and information regarding toileting.

For children in Plant Mawr, we will send weekly updates instead of daily, this is to help encourage children to share their experiences with you at the end of the day, helping them develop their confidence and communication skills. We will, however, adapt this approach for children with additional learning needs where appropriate.

Gweithdy and Yr Cuddfan are two spacious ground-floor rooms that allow children to move freely between the two areas through an archway. Each space is designed to offer different experiences and learning opportunities. Thoughtfully arranged to inspire curiosity and creativity, the rooms include areas for role-play, woodwork, loose parts, creative activities, block play, reading and mark-making. Resources are placed within easy reach so that children can make independent choices, pursue their interests and build confidence. All activities and learning areas are designed to support the goals of the Curriculum for Wales for funded non-maintained nursery settings, which is aligned with the curriculum used in schools.

Both rooms open onto a covered patio area, where children can enjoy outdoor activities throughout the day in all weathers. From there, they can access L’Antur and their own allotment, giving them space to explore, take part in physical play and learn about planting, growing and caring for the natural environment.

From September 2017 to July 2026, the setting successfully secured four consecutive tenders to provide funded nursery education as a non-maintained setting. During this time, we were registered with and inspected by Care Inspectorate Wales (CIW) and Estyn. In December 2023, we were one of only two settings in Wales to achieve an excellent rating in all six areas of a joint CIW and Estyn inspection. In 2026, we chose not to reapply for the tender because of continuing underfunding from the Welsh Government. We remain committed to drawing on our extensive experience as a leading provider of early education—including supporting schools as they introduced the curriculum—to continue developing a high-quality programme that gives every child the best possible start.

Please note that the preschool or nursery your child attends does not affect which school they will be offered. School admissions are managed independently according to their own published criteria, and individual schools do not make admission decisions.
