Baban Bach – up to 20months 

In August 2026, we reviewed our groups and chose to move away slightly from traditional age-based groupings. This gives our children more space, and more flexibility and support to ensure smoother transitions between groups.

We understand that leaving your child at nursery can feel especially difficult at this age, particularly if they have not previously spent significant time apart from you. As eating and sleeping patterns can change frequently during this stage, we will provide information before your child starts on how to prepare them for nursery. During settling-in sessions, you will also discuss your child’s routines with the Team Lead so that we can make the transition as smooth and reassuring as possible for everyone.

You will communicate with the team through an app called Famly. Your can provide updates on things such as their general wellbeing, how your child’s night has been or if there have been any changes to routines. We will share photos (more during the early days, while you and your child settle in) and keep you informed about all parts of their routine including what they have eaten, how long they have slept and the activities they have enjoyed.

Baban Bach is our baby area and has two base rooms: the Snug and Cabin Cwtch. Both rooms open onto a covered outdoor decking area, giving children access to fresh air throughout the day.

The Snug offers babies who are not yet walking a safe, cosy space to explore. Thoughtfully designed, it provides a welcoming environment where children can feel secure while discovering new experiences. Our supportive team follows each child’s individual care routine and plans activities around their needs and interests, helping every child feel comfortable, engaged and happy during their time with us.

Cabin Cwtch provides an ideal environment for children who are beginning to find their feet, giving them more room to move, explore and start playing independently with support from our team. Carefully chosen resources encourage exploration, language development, early social interaction and purposeful play. Our creative area also gives children opportunities to experiment with a range of textures and materials, supporting their sensory and creative development.

Mealtimes take place in Cabin Cwtch. Babies use highchairs, while older children sit on low chairs around tables, helping to prepare them for their transition to Baban Mawr.

Sleeping arrangements depend on each child’s age and stage of development. A cot room next to the Snug is equipped with a monitor and viewing panel, allowing practitioners to supervise children without disturbing them. Once children no longer need a cot, they sleep in Cabin Cwtch, which is transformed into a restful sleep area after lunch, when most children have their nap.

Every child is encouraged to reach their individual milestones in their own time through activities led by our “Aunties” (Childcare Practitioners). Activities are planned weekly and monitored by the Team Lead to ensure that children have plenty of fun while they learn and develop.

As with all our groups, activities are planned in line with the Early Childhood, Play, Learning and Care (ECPLC) principles, while also introducing children to the Welsh language and sign language.
