Baban Mawr – 21 months to 2 years 8 months

In August 2026, we reviewed our groups and chose to move away slightly from traditional age-based groupings. This gives our children more space, and more flexibility and support to ensure smoother transitions between groups.

The toddler stage can sometimes be particularly challenging when children are settling in, as they may feel unsure about what is happening. Having spent most of their 1^st two years with you, it is completely understandable that they may need time and reassurance to adjust. However, we do find that, once settled, children of this age thrive in an environment surrounded by other children and often form very close friendships that remain as they move through the groups.

You will communicate with the team through an app called Famly. We encourage you to share updates about how your child has been at home, including any trips or special experiences, so that we can talk about them together in the group. Each day, we will share photos and notes about your child’s progress and keep you updated on their routine including what they have eaten, how long they have slept an information regarding toileting.

Baban Mawr’s base room, Dosbarth Creon, is on the first floor and consists of two rooms connected by an archway. Children eat in the adjoining dining room, while those who still need a nap return downstairs to sleep alongside Baban Bach.

Dosbarth Creon is a warm and inviting space with dedicated areas for creative activities, quiet reading, block play, imaginative play and role-play. These areas are designed to encourage independence, self-help skills, language development and physical development through child-led exploration. Accessible toilets support toilet training, while child-sized sinks help children become more confident in managing their personal care and hygiene.

Although the group is based upstairs, children still make full use of our wonderful outdoor areas. At the front of the nursery, there is a large, level space for running and sports activities, as well as a wooded area for storytelling and exploration. The trees provide shelter in the rain and shade on sunny days.

At the back of the nursery, children can enjoy a bike track, a covered outdoor classroom, mud kitchen, and a sandpit and digging area. These spaces are set on artificial grass, making them accessible throughout the year. The outdoor environment helps children become comfortable spending time outside while ensuring they enjoy plenty of fresh air. They also have their own allotment area, which encourages an interest in gardening appropriate to their age.

As with all our groups, activities are planned in line with the Early Childhood, Play, Learning and Care (ECPLC) principles, while also introducing children to the Welsh language and sign language.
